LLandudno
A few years ago we visited Llandudno in North Wales for the day. It was glorious sunshine and i snapped this photo along the promenade. I enjoyed the symmetry, it reminds me a lot of Wes Anderson’s aesthetic, so I painted it in oils.
Nijmegen
One of my hobbies is water polo. I play for an LGBTQIA+ team called the Manchester Sharks, and we regularly visit other places around Europe for tournaments etc. On this particular trip, we’d ventured to Nijmegen in the Netherlands for the Eurogames, this is a big multi sport event, and we’d entered the water polo competition. It’s a lovely little town and some of my team mates had opted to stay on a boat instead of a hotel. The boat was located in a charming little marina and i snapped a photo one night when we’d gone to the marina for drinks. You can see a building int he distance with rainbow colours, this was the location of the main parties and ceremonies for the event.
Bornholm Lighthouse
This is Hammeren lighthouse on the small Danish island of Bornholm. My husband and I had opted for a destination wedding to elope as we’d become disillusioned with the cost and complexity of arranging a wedding here in the UK. We found a company that offered packages, so we flew via copenhagen to this tiny island and got married at the top of this lighthouse, with just a few friends as witnesses.
You may notice a fallen tree in the foreground. The day before and after our wedding saw severe storms hit denmark. Our flight over was like a rollercoaster and one of our friends was almost stranded at the airport because the taxis had decided the storm was too bad to work through. The morning of the wedding it was still a little stormy and our photographer had to visit first thing in the morning to check that the roads were still open. As the wedding approached however, the sky cleared and the sun came out. The wind was still strong but we had glorious sunshine for several hours. We got married in the lighthouse, had a picnic by some castle ruins and ice creams on the beach. The next day was back to storms and rain.
I painted this based on one of the pictures I took and kept the broken tree in view as a memory of the storm that parted for our wedding day.
Sant Bartomeu
One of the friends that attended our wedding was living in Barcelona and we visited her for my husbands birthday in November. It was still gorgeous weather and we visited the small town of Sitges. This is based on a photograph i took at sunset of the church that sits on the sea front, the colours and light were dazzling.
