Portraits
A selection of portraits completed in oils
Hello to Berlin
(Self portrait)
This is a self portrait based on a photo my husband captured of me while on our honeymoon. We travelled by train across several countries and this was our last leg to Berlin after spending a few days in Prague.
Well earned drink
This is an oil painting of my husband shortly after our wedding. We had a mini-moon in Copenhagen and this is based on a photo after a long day exploring the city, we’d gone to a small gay bar for a quiet drink and found this comfortable area with big wingback chairs.
The Iight
This is a painting of one of our friends from a photograph taken on a night out. She happened to be looking up at a light fixture and there was something fascinating about the composition that i just had to paint.
Self portrait in shadow
Every year I like to paint a self portrait, this particular one I decided to push the light values and go for something quite dark and mysterious.
Nate and Shinra
This is a little sad, my friend’s cat passed away quite suddenly and he was devastated. Since we first got our kitten, Nate has been by cat sensei and given us lots of advice, I felt I had to give him something back so I painted this of him and his late cat as a tribute.
Speakeasy
This is a portrait of one of my oldest friends. It’s based on a photograph from a night out when we ended up in a 1930’s speakeasy themed bar here in Manchester. The lighting for the stage and neon sign were a little strange so I decided to lean into the colours and push it a little further.
